Serie A Suspends Mourinho for 10 Days, Fine Him €50,000 for ‘Worst Referee’ Comments

Jose Mourinho will sit out more games at the beginning of next season after his recent suspension and fine by the Federation of Italian Football (FIGC).

Mourinho has been in the bad books of the federation since his return to Serie A with AS Roma in 2021, frequently clashing with match officials.

On a few occasions, he has been proven right, while on others, he has been booked during games with actions taken afterwards to protect the integrity of the game, as claimed by officials.

Mourinho suspended for 10 days

According to BBC Sports, the Special One was hit with a 10 days suspension and also handed a €50,000 fine, starting on the first day of the 2023/24 season.

This was in response to the insult he aimed at referee Danielle Chiffi, whom Jose called ‘the worst referee I’ve seen in my life’; he also claimed the official lacked empathy for sending off Zeki Celik, who slipped in the 96th minute of the game.

The former Chelsea boss was due to be unavailable for Roma’s first game of the season after accumulating five yellow cards, with his last coming in the final game of the season against Spezia.

Mourinho banned for insulting Taylor

Sports Brief reported that Mourinho was banned for four games after his parking lot charade with English official Anthony Taylor after the Europa League final.

The former Real Madrid boss uttered explicit words at Taylor, who waved away a Roma penalty in the 87th minute of the final which Sevilla won on penalties.

Sports Brief also reported that Mourinho gave a telling reaction that he would be staying in Rome next year while fans were applauding him after the game against Spezia.
